I think I think too much.

Just a little bit of me.

Forever Blessed and Thankful

Before life gets hectic and crazy, I wanted to thank all my friends who sent me messages and offered up prayers for my mom.

I don’t normally like putting my family’s business out there, but for those of you who were wondering, my mom suffered a heart attack while working at the VA Medical Center last Tuesday. Being the nurse that she is, she tried to play off the symptoms (shortness of breath, chest pains, and tightness in her neck), but as they became more unbearable, she finally spoke up and told her co-workers she wasn’t feeling well. They rushed her to the emergency room and catherization lab and found that her lower anterior descending (LAD) artery was 100% blocked. A stent was put in to open the artery up before things could get any worse. They also found that her left main artery was 50% blocked, but they were confident that with a complete lifestyle change (exercise, weight, and diet), that she could turn that around without needing surgery. She was kept until Thursday but after feeling chest pains on Friday, she was rushed to the hospital again. Thankfully, there was nothing different and tests showed that her heart was already recovering from the first episode.

As you can imagine, the past week has brought a rollercoaster of emotions for me and my family. Had any one thing gone differently, like if she decided to drive home or not told someone how she was feeling, there’s a good chance my mom wouldn’t be here today. It also was a big wake up call for our entire family that there were many things in our house that needed to be changed, starting with our diet. No one wants to think about losing someone, but this was a reminder that we have to be ready for anything at anytime. It was also truly humbling experience being at the hospital with her Wednesday. The Director, Chief of Staff, and Chief Nurse Executive, and countless of her co-workers stopped by to see her and had the nicest things to say about and to her. It also put me at ease knowing that I had family and friends around who cared enough to take the time and offer their prayers. It really meant a lot and turned out to make a big difference in the outcome.

On another note, thanks to everyone who came out to D6 Semi-Formal Saturday evening. It start off rough and I was a bit worried, but in the end it looked like everyone had the time of their lives. Saturday also reaffirmed that I’d rather be working behind the scenes than in the spotlight. I had so much fun coordinating with PACAS and working with DJ Pablo and my boy Jeff “CarltonBanks” Jackson for another gig. Not gonna lie, I felt like a rockstar standing in the DJ booth just watching 500+ college kids going crazy. It was just unreal. It’s also been an honor working and hanging out with the younger minds of FCA. It’s so crazy how fast time flies and how much people grow up in a semester.

Best of luck to all my friends with their finals. Happy Holidays to you all!
